“Aurelia,” roared the King.

Ellie woke up with a start. Her eyes snapped open and, for a brief moment, she couldn’t remember where she was. Then she saw Miss Stringle and her father. They both looked very cross. “Oh dear,” she groaned, as she realized what had happened.

“See?” said Miss Stringle, pointing accusingly at Ellie. “She was even snoring.”

“I was not!” protested Ellie, but the King was looking at her sternly.

“Do you remember what I said would happen if running the stables affected your school work?” he asked.

Ellie nodded miserably. “You said you’d send for George.”

“And I always keep my word,” said the King. “He’ll be here later on this afternoon.”
